Breastfeeding Awareness Week: Simple Tips for New Moms

Breastfeeding Awareness Week is a great time to focus on making your breastfeeding experience as smooth as possible. For new moms, knowing a few easy steps can make a big difference. Here’s a simple guide to help you get started:
Get Comfortable: Find a comfy chair that supports your back. Sitting up straight with good support can make breastfeeding more enjoyable for both you and your baby.
Avoid Feeding in Bed: While it might be tempting to lie down, it’s best to sit up in a chair to stay alert and avoid any potential accidents.
Use Pillows for Support: Place pillows on your lap and under your arms to lift your baby to the right height. This helps keep you comfortable and makes feeding easier.
Hold Baby Close: Cradle your baby so their tummy is against yours. This position helps with a better latch and makes feeding more effective.
Guide the Latch: Gently guide your baby’s mouth to cover the nipple and areola. A good latch ensures your baby gets enough milk and helps prevent soreness.
Check and Adjust: Make sure your baby is feeding well. If you feel discomfort or notice issues, adjust baby’s position or latch as needed.
Burp and Switch: After feeding on one side, gently break the latch and burp your baby. Switch sides if you’re continuing the feeding session.
